Jobs up in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE - Metro Gainesville gained 600 new jobs over the past month.

State Labor Department Commissioner Michael Thurmond says that amounts to a increase of eight-tenths of a percent.

The biggest increase in the number of new jobs in Georgia was in Hinesville, two-point-eight percent.

Meanwhile, the department says the state's unemployment rate is down half a percentage piont, to 4.6 percent.

The 14 metro areas of the state and their job changes from July to August include:

- Albany, down 200, or three-tenths percent, from 64,900 to 64,700.
- Athens, up 600, or seven-tenth percent, from 80,600 to 81,200.
- Atlanta, up 24,500, or one percent, from 2,385,600 to 2,410,100.
- Augusta, up 1,700, or eight-tenths percent, from 215,700 to 217,400.
- Brunswick, up 200, or four-tenths percent, from 46,500 to 46,700.
- Columbus, up 1,500, or 1.2 percent, from 122,900 to 124,400.
- Dalton, up 1,100, or 1.4 percent, from 78,600 to 79,700.
- Gainesville, up 600, or eight-tenths percent, from 70,900 to 71,500.
- Hinesville, up 500, or 2.8 percent, from 17,600 to 18,100.
- Macon, up 900, or nine-tenths percent, from 100,100 to 101,000.
- Rome, up 500, or 1.2 percent, from 43,400 to 43,900.
- Savannah, up 1,900, or 1.2 percent, from 155,100 to 157,000.
- Valdosta, up 500, or nine-tenths percent, from 55,000 to 55,500.
- Warner Robins, up 800, or 1.5 percent, from 54,700 to 55,500.
