The report is an annual review of community projects and accomplishments.
Among other things, it points to the creation of 600 new jobs in Gainesville and Hall County during the fiscal year ending June 30. It also lists 143 million dollars in capital investment during the period.
And, on the subject of road work, the report shows more than 300 million dollars in improvements to our highways and byways.
The 2006 Economic Development Report features updated information in the following categories:
Population - Gainesville-Hall County is the 12th fastest growing metropolitan area in the Nation
Vision 2030 - over $2.4 million of private funds were invested to fund HALLmark Vision 2006-2010 Campaign
Industry - 600 new jobs were created and $143 million in new capital investment in Gainesville-Hall County
Housing - gated, age-restricted residential developments with many amenities are being developed
Redevelopment - Gainesville's Midtown will be redeveloped with the help of a TAD
Government/Public - a new South Hall Library, parks, greenspace, and new roads are in the works
Retail - growing support for a lifestyle retail center bringing high-end retail to Gainesville-Hall County
Infrastructure - more than $300 million in road improvement projects are underway in our community
Education - over 10,000 students are enrolled at Gainesville-Hall County colleges and universities
Tourism - Lake Lanier Islands announced a $200 million investment
Healthcare - Northeast Georgia Medical Center acquired 119-acres for a new $200 million South Hall campus
Non-Profits - YMCA and Boys & Girls Club each completing $6 million capital campaigns
