ATLANTA - This will go down as one the Gainesville football team would definitely like to forget.

The Red Elephants were whipped nearly from the opening kickoff in a 48-8 loss to Westminster Friday night in the opening round of the Class AAA playoffs.

It started bad for Gainesville when Westminster recovered an onside kick to open the game. The Wildcats did not score but had the field position and eventually scored first on a 33 yard pass from Tom Moak to Smith Haverty.

Haverty was a thorn in the Elephants sides all night catching four passes for 122 yards, including a second TD pass of 35 yards and kicked two field goals of 34 and 43 yards.

The high-flying Gainesville offense could muster very little against the Wildcats turning the ball over six times, inlcluding five interceptions from Justin Fordham.

Westminster will take on Carrollton next week in round two of the playoffs.
