OAKWOOD - The new head of the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) was in Hall County Tuesday morning and appealed to local officials to help meet the transportation challenges facing the state.

It was Dr. Gena Abraham's first such visit with local officials in the state since becoming GDOT commissioner last month.

Among those on hand to greet Dr. Abraham were representatives of Hall County and its municipalities .

She told them she needs their help to meet the transportation challenges facing the state.

"Of course, funding is an issue," she said. "We're also looking at several new initiatives (and) public-private partnerships."

Dr. Abraham is the first woman to hold the post and succeeded Harold Linnenkohl, who retired this summer.
