LULA - A motorcyclist who was hospitalized after his cycle was hit by a pick-up truck has died of his injuries. He is identified as 28-year-old Jerry Dwayne Helton of Cornelia.

The wreck happened near Lula Saturday morning, and the investigation shut down the Old Cornelia Highway/Highway 52 intersection for a time.

State Trooper Jason Cunningham said Helton was transported to the hospital after his cycle collided with a small pick-up truck.

The truck driver was not hurt, the truck's front end was smashed by the collision with wreck debris scattered over the intersection.

"The pick-up was traveling west on Georgia 52 and the motorcycle was traveling east, it's undetermined who is at fault right now," Cunningham said.

Witnesses said the cyclist was thrown from his vehicle and struck the truck's windshield, leaving a gaping hole.
