GAINESVILLE - More than 2,300 people were without power Sunday morning after a Jackson EMC substation was knocked off-line in the west Gainesville area.

The outage occurred around 8:45 a.m. and knocked out power in the Highway 53, McEver Road Extension, and Shallowford Road areas, including Caswyck Lanier apartments, the Publix shopping center, and Wal-Mart.

Power was restored around 9:45 a.m. However, just over an hour later, part of the substation was once again off-line.

Jackson EMC spokeswoman Bonnie Jones explained the source of the problem, "It's a couple of power lines connecting in the wind."

Jones said crews had to essentially short the lines to resolve the problem. Power was restored before 1pm.
