OAKWOOD - Flowery Branch police took some deserving children shopping Saturday three days before Christmas in what they hope will become an annual event.

It was a busy, happy morning for six area kids and their parents as they went up and down the aisles at the Oakwood Wal-Mart during the first annual Flowery Branch Police 'Shop with a Cop'.

Seventh grader Andrew Van Donselaar joined the other youngsters in filling up a Christmas shopping cart.

"I want to get some warmup pants for basketball and some house slippers for my Mom," he said.

Lt. Anthony Sullo said his officers got plenty of community support.

"We had some anonymous donors and we had mostly local merchants who donated money and from a lot of people who just heard about it," Sullo said.
