The late model sedan, according to the Georgia State Patrol, was north bound when Dorothy Walden, 79, left the road, struck a road sign, and went down an embankment in a curve.
Traffic in the northbound lane was blocked as Hall County fire fighters stood by after initial reports that smoke was observed coming from the vehicle.
Troopers said the car dragged the road sign down the highway all the way to the point of impact with some trees.
