DECATUR - The DeKalb County police chief is urging suspects in the killing of two off-duty police officers in an apparent ambush to turn themselves in.

The two officers were dressed in their uniforms as they worked off-duty security at Glenwood Gardens apartments and were investigating a suspicious person when the shots were fired.

Police Chief Terrell Bolton says a tow truck driver called police to the scene around 12:40 a.m. today. The arriving officers found the first two officers down.

Bolton says one officer was dead at the scene; the other was pronounced dead at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

Bolton says the shooting appears to be an ambush and says it appears the officers were ``gunned down without a chance.''

He says authorities are searching for two men seen running from the scene.

Bolton advised the men who shot the officers to turn themselves in. He said during a pre-dawn news conference ``The sun's coming up. Before sundown, we're gonna find you.''
