GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville City Council wants the city cemetery on the National Register of Historic Places.

Council members Tuesday approved a resolution to nominate Alta Vista Cemetery to the National Register, the official federal list of districts, sites, buildings, structures and objects significant to American history.

According to Field Services Manager Vince Evans, who manages Alta Vista, there is no place in Gainesville that is more historic.
