GAINESVILLE - Gainesville City Council Tuesday morning tabled an Airport Industrial Park lease assignment on property that has remained undeveloped since 1973.

Councilman Bob Hamrick said this is not the time to approve a lease when they don't know what's going to happen with the property.

Hamrick said it's valuable land, located on an entryway into the city on Queen City Parkway at Ridge Road.

"I just feel like we'd like to know the plans of the company to see what their future plans are," Hamrick said.

Hamrick said he wants to negotiate with Parks Builders Mart and Builderway of Gainesville with the goal of getting the three-parcel tract developed.

'GREAT PLAN' IMPACT

Councilman Danny Dunagan said he wants action from local legislators concerning House Speaker Glen Richardson's efforts to get his 'Great Plan' through the General Assembly this year.

Dunagan said legislators need to study the impact Richardson's latest attempt to eliminate property tax would have on local government and schools.

"What it's going to do is impose sales tax on everything you do; I think this needs proper study and they're not wanting to do that," Dunagan said.

Dunagan said Richardson's plan would deny local government the authority to finance and manage its projects.
