Seasons end for GHS, East Hall girls

CARNESVILLE -- The fourth-ranked Franklin County girls held off tenth-ranked East Hall 55-43 in the second round of the Class AAA tournament on Wednesday in Carnesville.

Sandy Creek also ensured no Region 7-AAA teams would reach the quarterfinals by edging Gainesville 53-49 in overtime on Wednesday at Gainesville.

The loss ended the Lady Red Elephants' season.

East Hall's season is also over after Morgan Hart scored a team-high 16 points to lead Franklin County -- which moves on to the Class AAA quarterfinals at 5:30 p.m. Saturday Mount Zion High in Jonesboro. The Lady Lions will take on the winner of Wednesday's Carrollton vs. Westminster game.

Meanwhile, the Buford girls defeated Rutland 42-35 in the Class AA second round in Macon.

Buford moves on to take Wesleyan -- for the fourth time this season -- in the Class AA quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Saturday in Rome.
