Hall School Board views World Languages Academy as redistricting alternative

GAINESVILLE - Hall County School Board members expect to vote next week on a move toward eliminating school districts with the new World Languages Academy setting up at Chestnut Mountain Elementary School.

School Superintendent Will Schofield said Monday night the Academy would not become its own district; it would just give students moved around by redistricting a chance to stay put.

"Instead of creating a home district for the World Language School we're offering those families who've been bumped around in redistricting priority spaces if they so desire to go to the World Language School," Schofield said.

Schofield added that interest in attending the academy would take care of overcrowding at other schools.

"It's not creating a new district as much as flattening the bureaucracy in a move toward eliminating districts and creating programs of interest instead of hard and fast district lines, Schofield said.
