GAINESVILLE - Hall County commissioners said Thursday night they want to know the impact a new retirement plan could have on county employees.

The motion came from South Hall Commissioner Bobby Banks for a report on the plan from the Human Resources Department. Fellow commissioners admitted they did not know much about the plan taking effect the end of June.

Banks said he is uncertain about how it will affect workers slated to retire under current plan requirements.

"This is very complicated and very hard to understand, all the ramifications of what this has done to many of our tenured and dedicated county employees," Banks said.

Banks added that provisions of the new plan wouldn't be revealed until July 1.
He said he wants human resources to tell the commission in detail by April 10.

THIRD JUDGE COST

Commission Chairman Tom Oliver said that the recent request for legislative action to create a third state court judge would get approved.

Now, the commission has to consider how to raise the money to fund the additional judgeship.

"It could be an expensive ordeal," Oliver said. "It could cost anywhere from $300,000 to $800,000, we just don't know all the details."

While the state court is known as a revenue generator, Oliver said the county has to look at courthouse space and staffing costs.
