FLOWERY BRANCH - Flowery Branch area churches gathered Sunday for the annual Easter sunrise services at Memorial Park South Funeral Home and Cemetery.

Braving the early morning chill, members from five area churches joined million of other worshipers worldwide in celebrating the focus of the Christian faith.

That focus is the belief that 2000 years ago, an itinerant Nazarene minister, Jesus, professing to be the Son of God, rose from a borrowed grave three days after he was crucified under Roman authority in Jerusalem.

Zion Hill pastor Rev. Scott Wilson welcomed the worshipers.

"We have the churches listed here, Zion Hill, Flowery Branch United Methodist Church of the Holy Trinity, Christ Lutheran Church, Oakwood and Flowery Branch Baptist Church," Wilson said.

The service dates back 10 years and was originally held at Gainesville State College.

Because of college expansion, the service moved to Memorial Park five years ago near Flowery Branch.
