GAINESVILLE - Hall County Commissioners will vote Thursday on rezoning for another major mixed-use development in South Hall.

County Planning Director Randy Knighton said Monday his staff is recommending approval. The project includes residential and retail components with a 200-room hotel. The site is on Thompson Mill Road near Deaton Creek Parkway.

"It was proposed with an eye on the Deaton Creek retirement community and the proposed Northeast Georgia Medical Center hospital," Knighton said.

Knighton added that 28 acres of the total 67-acre project is in Hall County. The rest is in Gwinnett County.

Rochester and Associates Inc. of Gainesville is seeking a separate rezoning in Gwinnett County to bring the total overall development to nearly 800,000 square feet of retail/office space and 657 residential units including townhomes, condominiums, apartments and the hotel.

It would be built in four phases. The first, with work beginning this year if approved, would be in Gwinnett County and include a village center with mixed retail and housing across from the Village at Deaton Creek.

The complete build-out is set for 2015 with townhome construction.
