GAINESVILLE - Sloan Strickland drew a bases loaded walk scoring Justin Fordham in bottom of the eighth inning to give Gainesville a thrilling 9-8 come-from-behind win over East Hall Wednesday in Region 7-AAA action at Ivey-Watson Field.

The Red Elephants (7-4, 6-1 in region) trailed 8-4 going into the seventh inning but got a three-run, game-tying triple from Charlie Newman with two outs to send the game into extra innings.

Fordham earned the win pitching the final two innings allowing one run.

It was the fifth straight win for Gainesville and keeps them one game behind Gilmer in the region standings.

Newman finished with two hits and four RBI to lead the Elephants. Zach Bennett had two hits and one RBI for Gainesville.

Despite the loss, East Hall wracked up over 11 hits -- including a double and a triple by Drew Adams.

Vikings pitcher Ken Wise pitched 5 1/3 innings, giving up only 2 hits in the contest.
