The Hall County State Court Solicitor, who helps battered women and children and also volunteers with the Hall County Boys and Girls Clubs, and a pediatrician who supports Challenged Child are this year's award winners.
Larry Baldwin said Gateway House and the Boys and Girls Club are two things he really believes in, and he believes in something else that he learned very early.
"We should try to help our children," Baldwin said. "I learned in kindergarten that boys shouldn't hit girls."
Dr. Jennifer Gottsman was named Young Woman of the Year. She said it was her honor and privilege to serve the children of Gainesville.
"To make a difference in the life of children is such a gift," Gottsman said. "I was at the right place at the right time, surrounded by some great people."
1951's Young Man of the year, business and civic leader Carl Lawson, received the Jaycee Lifetime Achievement Award.
