GAINESVILLE - Hall County commissioners named an interim county administrator Thursday night as their regular session ended.

Charley Nix, county human resources director, will fill the slot beginning June 30 upon the retirement of administrator Jim Shuler.

After that date Shuler will act as a consultant for three months through the end of September.

Chairman Tom Oliver included in his motion to appoint Nix that the full commission would decide on appointing the next permanent administrator, and a nationwide search is underway to fill the job.

Oliver added the chairman and the county attorney would draw up the contract, but the full commission would vote on the new chief of county government.

"It will be a full commission involvement," Oliver said. "It will not be one person or two people to approve the new administrator."

Oliver added, "Charlie's not in the running. Charlie has done a great job with the human resources department and I think it's the way we're moving forward."

Nix said: "Certainly I'm honored that they wanted me to fill this interim slot. I've been here a little over a year and a half and I think Jim and I can make it an orderly transition."
