Memorial Day celebrations begin with a bang at LNS

BRASELTON - Lanier National Speedway brought out the big guns...er, wheels to get the Memorial Day festivities under way Sunday night.

The 3/8ths-mile oval concluded a two-day event of Monster Truck racing with a fireworks display jusy before midnight as a huge crowd was on hand.

Rick Long, driving "Bigfoot," won the elimination drag racing event while Carl Van Horn, driving MOPAR was voted by the fans as the frees tyle winner after jumping his truck nearly 40-feet into the air several times before rolling on its top.

"We love to come to Georgia and give the fans a show and I think they got their money's worth tonight," Van Horn said. "I would've kept going if I hadn't suffered some roll-cage damage. But it was fun while it lasted."

In some regular LNS feature races, Bubba Harry won the Thunder Roadsters division holding off Taylor Hull final five laps of the 20-lap feature.

Brady Boswell won the Bandit class and Jacob Wallace took the Young Gun division of the 20-lap Bandeleros race.

In the Legends semi-pro, Justin Swilling survived a wild last lap crash to get the win.

Pro driver Clay Haire was the overall winner of the Legends pro masters race while Zach Kittles won the Masters racewhile finishing second overall.
