GAINESVILLE - Carol H. Burrell, chair of the Board of the Northeast Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross, has announced the retirement of Regional Executive Director Jim Martin effective July 31.

Martin joined the Northeast Georgia Chapter as executive director in October 2000.

The chapter serves 13 North Georgia counties: Hall, Forsyth, Fannin, Gilmer, Habersham, Dawson, Lumpkin, Towns, Union, Stephens and White.

In addition, it assists Coosa Valley, Murray County and Dalton-Whitfield chapters in providing Red Cross services there.

Prior to his work with the Red Cross, Martin served in the U.S. Air Force and retired as the rank of Colonel after a 30-year career. He then served as the business manager at Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville before being named executive director of the Red Cross chapter.
