Slow start to voting in Hall

GAINESVILLE - It was slow going as the polls opened in Hall County for Tuesday's primary elections.

Perhaps voters were not in a mood get up early and vote, or perhaps it was the prediction that only 30 percent of Georgia's voters would bother to vote.

Only a handful of voters turned out early at the Masonic Lodge on Dawsonville Highway, at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Enota Drive and at the East Hall Library in Rabbitttown.

New Holland poll manager Alwayne Randolph was hoping for better numbers, but by 8 a.m. fewer than 10 voters had shown up.

"Hopefully it will pick up some," she said. "We do want the voters to cast their ballot."

Randolph added she expects many more voters will show up at the General Election in early November.

"We do expect it to be a lot busier," Randolph said. "That's when we vote for President and people like to get involved with that."

Hall Elections Director Charlotte Sosebee-Hunter did not have exact voter figures at noon but said it was very slow at precincts all over the county.

At the Georgia Mountains Center where 1691 voters are registered, only 69 had voted by shortly before 11:00 a.m.
