Using Monique's Beauty and Barber Supply on Athens Street as a base, workers fanned out to go door to door to get voters registered and interested, according to Richie Fearn.
"We're trying to get as many people to register as possible," Fearn said. "Our second concern is 'Are they for Obama' and if so, to come out for that too."
Gainesville Obama precinct supporter Martha Randolph owns Monique's, and the shopping center it's located in, and welcomed the Obama workers who got an early morning start and worked in the neighborhood all day.
"It's been a pretty good day," Randolph said. "A lot of people are registering the ones who are not registered and those registered are letting us know they are."
Randolph said there are some people not registered to vote and a lot of new people who have moved into the area are not registered yet.
