CUMMING -- The Class AA No. 1-ranked Buford girls softball team split a pair of games Saturday in the Hawk/Bulldog Invitational Tournament at South Forsyth High School.

In the first game the Lady Wolves whipped Central Gwinnett 4-0 behind sophomore Karly Fullem, who tossed a complete-game shutout striking out 10 and walking just one.

In the second game Buford fell 2-1 to Loganville as Melissa Dickie was the tough-luck loser allowing just one earned run in a complete-game effort. Dickie fanned seven and walked just one.

The Wolves got some outstanding performances at the plate in the two games led by freshman Lexi Overstreet, who was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Senior Whitney Holman had two hits and senior Brandi Hellumn and sophomore Whitney Wolfe each had one hit and one RBI and scored a run.

In the second game junior Samantha Ramey, freshman Chelsie Thomas, Holman, Overstreet, and Hellumn each had one hit.

Buford next will play at Jefferson on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
