Gainesville's State Little League champs draw GCC praise

GAINESVILLE - "Obviously they're the champions for the State of Georgia in 10 and 11 year old play, for the first time in the City of Gainesville"...with that announcement Tuesday night at the Georgia Mountains Center, Gainesville's Little League State champions drew recognition and praise from Mayor Myrtle Figueras and the City Council.

The 10 to 11-year-old All Stars went 4-0 in district play in Athens in late June, and then the Parks and Recreation team went all the way to the top in Atlanta competition in July.

Thirty-nine teams vied for the state title Gainesville's Little Leaguers won this summer.
