This is the third house where students from high schools all over the county are literally learning by doing.
One of the nine young workers on the site was Chestatee High senior Anthony Ward.
"I'm learning the basics of construction," Ward said. "This is getting me started if I want to actually go on and do something in construction."
Ward said he plans a career in law enforcement when he graduates, but his on the job experience will give him knowledge to make repairs around the house and he'll know what to look for when buying his own house some day.
The Habitat High students should have the 1,100-square-foot, three bedroom house finished by Christmas, according to instructor Rodney Presley.
"This is the classroom," Presley said. "Out here on the job site it's a totally different ball game; it goes more in depth into the construction phase."
Students started calling the building program Habitat High after it began in the fall of 2007 as a collaborative effort between the Hall County School System, the Greater Hall Builder's Association and Hall Habitat for Humanity.
The students joined Habitat and school officials for the groundbreaking conducted by Habitat Executive Director Robb Owens and a blessing of the ground and the project by Dave Chanell of Blackshear Place Baptist Church.
