Look for enforcement of downtown Gainesville parking limits

GAINESVILLE - It was moving day at the Georgia Mountains Center Parking Deck Thursday; the city posted a sign ordering all vehicles out of the deck by six p.m.to make way for the deck's demolition.

Downtown picks up over 400 new spaces when the deck is completed; for now its losing about 260 spaces with demolition and removal of the old deck.

Gainesville Police Chief Frank Hooper said that means the two-hour parking limit on the square and along the sidewalk is going to be enforced.

"Just be aware of how long you've been there when you park up there," Chief Hooper said. "We need to turn that parking over; when you do your business and finish up, move your car."
