GAINESVILLE - Gainesville City Council Thursday delayed action on a new corporate golf fee contract at the city owned Chattahoochee Golf Course, facing decreased golfing because of the economy.

Councilman Bob Hamrick said a finance department report indicated a $128,000 deficit last year.

"There is concern about the new contract even though it guarantees an amount of money," Hamrick said.

According to the new contract resolution CGC provides 9500 rounds for country club members and agrees to pay $23,750 monthly including sales tax and $285,000 annually.
Additionally, the course would be charged $17 per found for additional rounds over the guaranteed 9500 rounds at $32 each.

Councilman Danny Dunagan said the recession is causing golfing to drop off but the city still has a $4-million dollar bond to pay off for restoring and renovating the course a couple of years ago.
Council members agreed to discuss the fee contract at their upcoming annual retreat set for next month instead of placing it on the consent agenda for the next regular meeting.
