GAINESVILLE - The Hall County School Board Monday night was advised to wait for a state decision on student testing before they set the school calendar for 2010-2011.

That's because the state education department is expected to set a date this week on when to hold the Criterion Reference (CRCT) test the same day statewide for elementary and middle school pupils.
Assistant Supt. Dr. Eloise Barron said two of the four versions of the proposed calendar call for April spring break a week early; she hopes to recommend a new calendar next Monday.

"Teachers feel they need more time to prepare students after Spring Break for the test to get them back into the routine of their work," Dr. Barron said. "The DOE (Department of Education) has told me they are planning to make a decision this week about that common window for every system."
"If we get that information this week then we will make our recommendation to the Board on Monday."
