Man dies, woman charged in Cleveland Highway wreck

GAINESVILLE - A Dawsonville man is dead and a Dahlonega woman is in jail after a one car accident on Cleveland Highway north of Gainesville.

Trooper Spencer Munger with the Georgia State Patrol said the 27-year-old man was a passenger in a car driven by Kaela Allison, 22, of Dahlonega. Troopers responded to the scene of the accident at 2:24 a.m. Thursday.

Allison's vehicle left the road near Honeysuckle Drive, traveled across a residential driveway, hit a tree and then hit a parked car. Munger said Allison ran from the scene of the accident. She was picked up by authorities shortly after the wreck and taken to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where she was treated for minor injuries. She was taken from the hsopital to the Hall County Jail.

Allison has been charged with DUI, 1st degree vehicular homicide, failure to maintain lane and leaving the scene of the accident.

Authorities are not yet releasing the name of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
