GAINESVILLE - It was a very special Birthday celebration Sunday at the Northeast Georgia History Center for a lady who loves education.

It was a surprise birthday present for Ada Mae Ivester from New Holland with the announcement coming from Dr. Patricia Byrd, president of the History Center Board of Trustees.

"Ada Mae, the Northeast Georgia History Center is proud to announce the naming of our newly created education center, the Ada Mae Ivester Education Resource Room," Dr. Byrd said.

Mrs. Ivester said it was a total surprise; she knew about the birthday cake, but not the Education Center, which museum director Glen Kyle said would provide a multi-use area for class rooms, seminars and activities for a wide rages of audiences, with the focus to be on school children from throughout Northeast Georgia.

"Every time we have a school group come here now, we're going to have a place to be able to sit them down and start them out to prepare them for a tour of the entire facility," Kyle said.

"It's great and so many people will be touched by it, that's the main thing," Mrs. Ivester said.

The surprise birthday present came from her son Doug Ivester, former President and CEO of Coca Cola, who grew up in the New Holland community.

"My mother was always a great proponent of education," Ivester said.â
