GAINESVILLE - Hall County Animal Shelter workers said Tuesday they hope to hear soon from the owner of a small dog that was brought to the shelter after he was struck by a car Saturday night.

Animal Services Officer Wes House found the little light brown and white mixed terrier on Spring Road off Price Road in North Hall County and brought him in.
Shelter Veterinarian Meghan Seabolt said the dog suffered badly skinned front legs and possible broken foot bones and is now under her care; about six months old, he was wearing a collar and leash but had no rabies or ID tags.

"I put him under anesthesia Saturday night and fixed his legs and he's doing good," Dr. Seabolt said. "He may have some broken bones in his feet but I think he'll recover with the right care."

Seabolt said the goal now is to find the dog's owner; she said it's obvious he is someone's pet and not a stray.

"He had a fairly new collar, he's owned by somebody so we want to find his home so they can finish taking care of him," she added. "He's a sweet boy, even as hurt as he was he would still hop up on his back legs to the front of the cage wanting attention."

Seabolt said up to now owners claim very few lost dogs, and animal control officers bring in many strays.

"We had 206 animals dropped off our first week and we need people to help us out and help find them homes," Seabolt said." I don't know if people are moving and leaving animals behind or what's happening but we have a lot of strays that we were hoping owners would come pick up but they haven't turned up so far."

Seabolt anyone looking for their pet or wanting to claim this dog may call the shelter at 678-450-1587 or Animal Control at 770-531-6831.
