GAINESVILLE - More educators lost jobs because of the deficit, revenue drops and stagnant enrollment; this time from the Gainesville School system Monday night according to Superintendent Dr. Merrianne Dyer.
Dr. Dyer said she hopes the 12 teacher layoffs will be the last unless there's another drastic state funding cut.

"We hope and think that is going to be what we need unless we have much further cuts coming from the state," she said.

That brings the total to 36 certified and 15 classified city school employees laid off; Dr. Dyer said 34 part time teacher jobs could be cut if further reductions are needed.

"Another factor is the stagnant growth," Dr. Dyer added.â
