GAINESVILLE -- The opening day of the girls NE Georgia Mountains Cup tournament saw defending champion Buford fall and a wild shootout between Chestatee and Stephens County Saturday at the Allen Creek Soccer Complex.

Chestatee outlasted Stephens County 5-3 in Group B action as Daniela Sotelo had a goal and three assists to lead the Lady War Eagles to the win.

Chestatee earned nine points with the win. Stephens picked up three points in the loss.

In wild offensive battle, the Lady Indians drew first blood when Stacie Bevens raced down the field eluding the defense and scored.

Chestatee's Abi Mills answered minutes later heading in Sotelo's corner kick. Saira Saucedo made it 2-1 for Chestatee, scoring a long kick from 45 yards out that sailed over the keeper' reach. Sotelo found the back of net 50 seconds later to make it 3-1.

Stephens County kept the game in check, with Nikkie Means scoring before half-time to make it 3-2. In the second half, Sotelo set up Kelsey Neukum to move Chestatee to 4-2 lead. However, Means connected off a corner kick to keep the game close at 4-3.

At the 12 minute mark, Sotelo, making her third assist, found Megan Fligg, who finished off a strong shot in the middle of the goal.

Sharon Sotelo had three saves in goal to earn the win for Chestatee (9-3-1). Morgan Bolick had two saves for Stephens County (4-5).
