PEACHTREE CITY - Severe storms are forecast for much of north Georgia, including a tornado watch in the extreme northwest portion of the state.

A wind advisory is in effect for the area until midnight Friday.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City says skies will be mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Some storms may be severe, with large hail and damaging winds, especially in north Georgia.

The weather service's storm prediction center in Norman, Okla., is forecasting the development of tornadoes over parts of the Tennessee Valley and southern Appalachians Friday afternoon and night, including northern Georgia.

On Saturday, the forecast calls for decreasing cloudiness, with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in far south Georgia.
