GAINESVILLE - Gainesville city administration and department heads Tuesday night drew praise for a 2010 general fund budget that is seven percent smaller than the one passed a year ago for FY 2009.

Council voted unanimously to put the new $25.7 million budget on first reading with a final vote and expected approval slated for June 16. The Public Utilities budget is proposed at $48.3 million, a 1.2 percent decrease. It requires no tax increase and no cuts in services, but the cost of solid waste management is set to increase by $1.25 a month.
