GAINESVILLE - Gainesville City Council Thursday gave the go-ahead to apply for annexation of 100 acres of so-called county islands inside the city limits.
City Planning Director Rusty Ligon said this involves mostly commercial 'Gateway' property worth around $26-million.
Ligon said the tax value for the city adds up to just over $65,000 and for the school board, $192,000.
The islands are on Jesse Jewell Parkway, Browns Bridge Road, Dawsonville Highway and Thompson Bridge Road.
State law allows the city to annex those islands.
