State to bond finance Hall's Don Carter Park

GAINESVILLE - Regardless of sharp budget cuts and revenue declines, Georgia's Department of Natural Resources Commissioner said Saturday in Gainesville there's a way to pay for Don Carter State Park in Hall County.

Commissioner Chris Clark told his Conservative Forum audience the way is through long-term revenue bonds, not a draw on the budget.

"It is a separate type of money with bond financing over 20 years," Clark said. "The Governor felt this was a project that was ready to go, we could move on it very quickly, start turning dirt, starting giving jobs out and it was part of his stimulus package."

Clark said $14-million in bond financing is approved to break ground early next year on the first state park on Lake Lanier as part of the state's new Chattahoochee Trail initiative, a plan to develop parks and recreation facilities along the river.
