GAINESVILLE - Gainesville's Planning and Appeals Board Tuesday night invited a new group home into town for men recovering from alcohol and drug abuse.

The Board unanimously approved Group Home Development's special purpose request for the three-story apartment-style home to house 48 men at Myrtle Street and Auburn Avenue off Jesse Jewell Parkway on an undeveloped lot.

The request got staff approval because it is in a mixed use, transitional area.
City Planner Matt Tate told the Board it had support from the nearby J&J Food Store.

Chris Cooley said this is Group Home's second 'Turning Point' facility in Gainesville; this one needs to be bigger.
