GAINESVILLE - Four Hall countians got the official thanks of the court from Chief Northeastern Circuit Judge Andrew Fuller Wednesday for making sure there are enough qualified jurors.

They have served six years on the Hall County Jury Commission, adding trial and grand jurors, with five revisions to the Jury Box in six years.

"Without the jury commissioners we would not have qualified jurors to serve in Hall County and they put forward quite an effort," Judge Fuller said.

At the commission members' retirement recognition at the Hall County Courthouse Judge Fuller added during their six years the trial jury list has grown from 17,031 to 31,008 people.
The Grand Jury list has grown from 2787 to 3931 people.

Judge Fuller also credited the commission members with making sure trial juries are ethnically balanced.

"The Georgia Supreme Court many years ago required that ethnicity be balanced by percentage," Fuller said. "In a diverse Hall County like we see today the Jury Commission has to make quite the effort to make sure the numbers are balanced accurately."

Laverne McDuffie, Jennifer Rogers Puryear, Nenion Conley and Kenneth Savage received plaques recognizing their service from Clerk of Courts Charles Baker.
Four new commission members will soon join the two remaining commission members, Camille Vierra and Deborah Mack.
