GAINESVILLE - Gainesville School Board Chairman David Syfan said Friday he expects board approval of a revised agreement with the city on supporting the Midtown Tax Allocation District, but TAD was not on the agenda for a called meeting at the new middle school.

"At least a quorum of the Board will enter into the TAD agreement as soon as we work out the details," Syfan said.

Syfan said attorneys are still working on changes the Board wants on evaluation dates and impact on the current system budget. Under the TAD, the Board would agree to commit school system tax revenues to midtown redevelopment.
The Board met at the New Gainesville Middle School and then attended the Convocation ceremony in the school gym.

ENROLLMENT EXPECTATIONS

Gainesville School Superintendent Dr. Marianne Dyer told board members to expect a possible spike in enrollment when school opens next Tuesday despite state education predictions.

Dr. Dyer said that could mean going to "Plan B."

"'Plan B' involves taking existing personnel who have been in specialized programs and converting them to regular education teachers," Dr. Dyer said.

Dyer said "Plan B" for now does not involve hiring additional teachers. She said recent student registrations are beyond expectations, especially in kindergarten.
