Hamrick calls for 'fee' probe and SPLOST audit

GAINESVILLE - Gainesville City Councilman Bob Hamrick wants to pursue what he calls a violation of public trust that he says could have derailed a major downtown commercial development.

Hamrick said that violation occurred when Hall Commission Chairman Tom Oliver, Commissioner Billy Powell and Redevelopment Authority attorney Tred Syfan became involved in a private land deal when they offered to buy the Regions Bank property adjacent to City View Center, a planned Midtown Hotel and office building complex.

City View later bought the Regions property to settle a suit filed against it by Regions, alleging that City Viewâ
Hamrick said he believes any fees collected by the county officials violated public trust
