FLOWERY BRANCH - It took two years, but worshipers and guests celebrated the new 450-member Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints near Flowery Branch Saturday during an open house on Cash Road.

Bishop Todd Haycock recalled the ground presented a challenge at first; a large amount of rock had to be removed from the church site

"I think they had to do a lot of blasting to get the rock cleared up so we could put the foundation in but at least we know it's on a solid foundation," Bishop Haycock said.

Among the guests was Flowery Branch Mayor Diane Hirling, who said the new church represents more growth for her town, even though it is not yet inside the city limits.

"Maybe we could combine this with city hall and annex it in, it's such a beautiful building," the Mayor said.

Bishop Haycock said the church serves South Hall and Gwinnett County and represents solid church growth.
