GAINESVILLE - Saturday is yard sale day in Gainesville, and about the biggest one held in Gainesville this weekend was in the Georgia Mountains Center Arena.

Pyper Macloskie with the Junior Service League of Gainesville/Hall County said that organization's annual Harvest Thrift Sale draws big crowds looking for bargains.

"This year we've had about 50 more people than last year, with around 1,000 people when we opened the doors," Macloskie said.

Macloskie said the Junior Service League hoped to make around $20,000 from sales of slightly used clothing, furniture, household goods, toys and sporting goods.

The Thrift Sale, held the first Saturday in October, raises money for the League's service programs and agencies it supports.
