GAINESVILLE - Lanier Village Estates celebrated the completion of its $8-million expansion Wednesday in Gainesville.

A new chapel, sixteen assisted living suits and thirty-two skilled care beds in the health center fulfilled the vision for the Gainesville retirement community according to Marvin Mashner, President and CEO of ACTS Retirement-Life Communities.

"It represents an opportunity in a local area to find a place that can meet your needs in the later stages of life," Mashner said. "It provides for you in the event you need additional care but it's really a life style choice."

Lanier Village residents and visitors including community leaders gathered for the dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting in the new McGill-Scarbrough Chapel and then took tours of WillowBrooke Court and OakBridge Terrace.

Mashner said the additions follow a nationwide movement to make senior care more homelike and person centered an ever growing senior community market.

"We're in a society where the children live in other parts of the country and they have their own demands and this provides a resource for that," Mashner said.

Alice Eckhardt, Lanier Village executive director, said residents who need extra care live in environments that allow for more privacy with most of the comforts of home, with healthcare services provided at no increase to a resident's monthly fee under the community's life care plan.
