PENDERGRASS - An accumulation of dust in a section of a Jackson County facility is being cited as the cause of an explosion Tuesday afternoon at a vitamin distribution center off Highway 129 just north of Interstate 85.

Capt. Darrell Chaisson with the Jefferson Fire Department said his firefighters, along with several other agencies, responded about 12:30 p.m. to the call at DSM Nutritional Products on Jackson Concourse.

He said there was no fire, but there was damage to the multi-story structure.

"There was an obvious type of explosion here," said Chaisson. "There's debris laying out in the parking lot area."

Chaisson said that two employees in the parking lot of the center received minor injuries in the explosion. Both were taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
