SUWANEE - The City of Suwanee has the first 'paperless' court in the state of Georgia; Recognition came Tuesday night during the city's final meeting for 2010.

Suwanee's court drew the Program of the Year award from the Georgia Council of Court Administrators and President Marla Moore said it was because the city is on the cutting edge of record keeping technology and efficiency by putting everything in the computer.

"All the documents are together," Moore said. "There's no hunting for files and nothing gets lost on somebody's desk."

Suwanee Court Clerk Mariza Abdeljawad, named Georgia Court Clerk of the year, says paperless is great.

"Now we have everything in the system," she said. "With one click you find anything, you don't have to stand up to look in a file cabinet."

CLEAN AUDIT

The City of Suwanee got an annual audit report that any city council likes to hear during Tuesday night's meeting. Auditor Joel Black said there were no discrepancies, it was a clean audit and the city is moving into 2011 in good financial shape; that means a strong fund balance according to Mayor Dave Williams.

"Our fund balance is at 68 percent of our general budget and that's right in the range where we want to be," the Mayor said.

Mayor Williams added the audit was especially good news in the face of a recession economy and the continuing struggle with a declining tax digest.
