GAINESVILLE - In Gainesville at Fair Street School a group of lay clergymen banded together during the Christmas season to help 'Feed the Need', and they say with the economy, the need is growing.

Organizer of 'Feed the Need', Richard Bell of Gainesville, said he drew on the generosity of local food retailers and providers, churches and others to provide a Christmas dinner on Sunday, December 12th in the school cafeteria for families who otherwise might have gone hungry. Bell, known among friends and associates as 'Rico', said New Testament scripture inspired him to help others, not only at Christmas, but all year long.

"I've been doing this for three years," Williams said. "My goal is to do this four times a year, two times inside of a building and two times on the outside. We give out clothes and we also give out Bibles, and we've helped some of them get jobs."

Fair Street School principal Will Campbell said his school serves as a community meeting place to help people as well as a place of learning during the week.

"This cafeteria was full and it seats 250 children and the gym houses around 450 with several hundred in here having dinner," Campbell said. "I wish we could have something here every Sunday, there are a lot of people out there who are unemployed."
