The Dragons next will take on the East Hall-Gilmer winner at 6 p.m. Friday in the second round of the tournament at North Hall High with a state tournament berth on the line.
Pickens led from start to finish put did not take control of the game until the second quarter. The Dragons used a 10-2 run to end the first half to take a 34-20 halftime lead.
Lambert (6-20) was held to just six points in the third quarter as Pickens extended its lead to 44-26 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Longhorns got as close as 12 points twice in the final two minutes but could not get any closer.
Dylan Woodall, Bob Jasperse, and Bo Champion each finished with seven points for Pickens.
Taylor Moore led Lambert with 14 points. Spencer Haywood added eight points for the Longhorns.
