Rebecca Davis is the Executive Director of The Center for Hope & Healing in Hall County. She credits education programs, such as Good Touch/Bad Touch, with curbing a number of cases.
"One of the children in question with one of the cases in Hall County, actually disclosed the abuse she was suffering after she saw a Good Touch/Bad Touch program in the school," said Davis.
Still, Davis noted that some 25-percent of all children are sexually abused, not only by adults, but often by other children.
"In almost 90-percent of the cases of child sexual abuse, it's actually somebody the child knows who abuses the child," said Davis.
Davis was a guest this past week on WDUN's The Local Hour. She was addressing the issue of child sexual abuse in light of a number of recent news reports in northeast Georgia involving child pornography and sexual exploitation of children.
April, by the way, is National Child Abuse Awareness Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
